BF3: More Expansion Details Emerge

Gleaned from Mp1st article(s).

There will be no Rush Mode in Close Quarters.

Close Quarters will have a variation of Conquest called Conquest Domination. This is good news for me but BF3 vets will be crying “you’re copying CoD,” the moment I finish typing this. Quite frankly, coming from CoD, I don’t see much of a difference between BF3 Conquest and CoD Domination game modes, other than the glaringly obvious that is (vehicles, bigger maps, etc.) I’m just happy it’s not all TDM.

Close Quarters will not support 64 players on or 32 players on console. The official page states 2-16 players. This makes sense. A small map with boat loads of players pretty much amounts to; die, spawn, shoot guy in front of you, die, spawn, get shot by guy in front of you, die, spawn

I also confirmed something that I suspected the moment I saw the Close Quarters trailer, it was inspired by The Matrix scene when Neo and Trinity turn an office building lobby into a pile of smoldering rubble.

I sat down and spoke with Jhony Ljungstedt, my art director, and had a discussion about how we could achieve this. After bouncing random ideas for a while, he told me that even though that explosive scene from “The Matrix” was rather old, seeing Neo and Trinity turn a lobby into rubble in slow motion did leave a huge impression, and hadn’t ever been properly done in a game. We both agreed and Jhony said he really wanted to be able to create that sensation. ~ Niklas Fegraeus, Lead Designer on Battlefield 3: Close Quarters

WHERE’S OUR TUTORIAL MODE?
One thing I feel the game desperately needs is a tutorial mode. Something to help new players ease into the game better but mostly something to help us vehicular challenged people learn how to fly choppers and such.

It’s not a big deal to me, I do well enough in ground vehicles, but it would be nice. I can “fly” a plane–so long as the definition of flying is going forward in the direction the nose is facing–but I get knocked out of the sky within 60 seconds thanks to all the Ace pilots that now dominate. At this point in the game’s lifespan getting a kill to level up the plane is near impossible. I won’t even look at a chopper pilots seat. Why waste a perfectly good chopper so I can learn to fly at detriment to my team?

Still, it would be good to be able to hop in one occasionally and hold my own. Especially in those late night games when I always seem to get stuck on the team without a decent pilot.

  1. Still not sure what to make of the CC maps…. I’m fairly certain I’ll end up getting them as I don’t have COD:Rehash 2012; just not sure how good it will end up being. You just know that some of those games are going to be filled with grenade and rocket spams.

I also really thought that when they mentioned private servers that would be the ticket to learning how to fly planes. I didn’t care if they were ranked or not, infact I preferred them not to be so that there would be no restrictions to what you could do, and whatever you did made no difference to your online level. Maybe have two separate ranking systems (I know COD had it but I liked it that way, you could mess about against bots, learn the maps, and not have to try and do it against “pros”). I came to BF3 late, and then I rarely play anyway. That means that after the game has been out so long I’m still only level 17. I still enjoy myself but I don’t have the luxury of Spazzing, or MAV-bashing people.

So I was hoping that the private maps would maybe be one way of me being able to play against a bunch of friends every now and then to mess about with things or to practice. Not just vehicles either. I’ve love to be able to go on an empty map and just mess about with the sniper rifles. Instead I find out that by private servers they meant renting one of EA’s own servers. What a load of crap. Sure it might not end up being expensive if say 20 of you wanted to rent one out between you but its still a load of crap… let’s just hope it’s not going to be ranked (although I guess they’ll make it ranked so it becomes more appealing). That suddenly means a whole bunch of boosters and idiots

    • From what I understand the rental servers for the consoles will be just like the system for PC. So the admin will have total control over them. They will be ranked or unranked depending on the admin and they will be breeding grounds for boosters.

To be honest, the thought that someone will boost their toon in a private server doesn’t bother me as much as when they do it in public ones. Technically I was boosting 2Times a little last night, letting him get easy kills on me and arming/disarming the MCOM. I wanted him to get over that new player hump quicker than I did!

At this point renting a server may be the only way to figure out how to fly. I only just unlocked flairs for the jets last night and I did that by going kamikaze on a chopper! If I start picking up more hours I would probably rent one if the pricing was reasonable. Hopefully one of my friends will rent one, if so, you’re in!

  2. I quite enjoyed the earlier rounds of squad rush though… even with 3 vs 2. When everybody isn’t taking it too seriously and you’re all having fun. God knows how many times I got sniped in that one map but I couldn’t stop laughing.

    • Yeah, erock and CHAD are two of the coolest guys I’ve met online. They are always good for a laugh. Redout is pretty hilarious as well but he didn’t pop into the game with us last night. 2Times is from the PGL site and he only just picked the game up.

Glad you had a good time. So did I. We didn’t do too bad in conquest either.
